The 7th of September 2015

Maite Mola, Vice-President of the European Left (EL) and Attila Vajnai, chair of the Hungarian Workers’ Party 2006, together with Mirko Messner, chair of the KPOE, Gerlinde Grünn, city Councillor of Linz Austria, and Julia Okropiridse had the opportunity to meet  coordinators for the help of refugees.

The Vienna railway station, Westbahnhof, was full with 10 000 refugees over the last 2 days while at the same time the press festival of the Communist party of Austria with participation of EL representatives took place.

Money was collected at the stall of the EL to buy urgently needed: bags and tickets for the onward journey from the Austrian border to Munich, Germany (in Austria, the public railways offered free transport).

Maite Mola said to be very much impressed by the overwhelming wave of solidarity of the Austrian people who were queuing to bring donations.

At the same time, she urged the European authorities, especially the European Council, to come forward with immediate, feasible and sustainable solutions. “The inactivity of Europe is a flaming disgrace and politically totally irresponsible,”

Attila Vajnai underlined the importance of growing solidarity inside the Hungarian society, and he felt sorry about the antihuman policies of the Hungarian Government.

Mirko Messner added that the inability and unwillingness of the European Union to agree on immediate and common actions, as well as working out a common strategy, show once more that the neo liberal dogma on which the EU has been shaped is an intolerable obstacle not only to a social and democratic development of our continent, but also for saving lives and respecting international human rights law!  He urged for fundamental changes in Europe.
