A delegation of the Party of the European Left (EL), headed by the vice president and head of international relations, Maite Mola, will participate in the XXI Meeting of the Forum of Sao Paulo, to be held from July 29 to August 1 in Mexico .
The usual share of EL in these annual meetings confirms the excellent relations existing between the Sao Paulo Forum, which brings together political parties and leftist organizations in Latin America, with the EL which groups 33 European parties of the Left. The constant relationships follow each other in both meetings of the Forum of Sao Paulo, and in seminars, summer schools and other international activities organized by the EL, or jointly by both entities.
There are already many years of cooperation between the two sister organizations on both sides of the Atlantic, and many joint statements issued for work on concrete proposals in the international arena, ranging from debt restructuring to support the governments of Venezuela, Cuba, Argentina, the peace negotiations in Colombia, the war in Ukraine and interventions in the Middle East.
The last joint declaration between the representatives of the member parties of the two organizations on 7 and 8 May was held in Brussels in the framework of the Second Summit between the Heads of State and Government of the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and the Caribbean (CELAC). In the document signed, common positions and strategies have been clarified, to respond to the attacks of neoliberalism in all its forms, whether in the form of free trade agreements, international intervention or militarism settled. Against attempts of economic and political control of transnational with international financial support and its related policy, the EL and the Forum of Sao Paulo responded with clear proposals for a comprehensive restructuring of political and economic relations based on cooperation, complementarity, human development, disarmament, democracy, respect for human rights and migrant's rights, the fight against climate change.
