The Party of the European left, through the Member of its Executive Board, Willy Meyer, MEP also from Izquireda Unida (IU), participated in the 18th March to Rota (Cádiz), in protest against the military bases of NATO and the United States installed in Andalusia.

He did so last Sunday 13 October, along with the militancy of the Communist Party of Andalusia, Izquierda Unida - Los Verdes (United Left - The Greens) and dozens of political, social and trade union organizations in the framework of the platform against the Bases that promotes a mobilization for peace and against war that "imperialism holds against increasingly more people" according to the signed manifest.

Around two thousand people marched through the road that separates the Esplanade of the cemetery of the town of Rota from the entrance of the military Base. They finished the protest by reading a manifesto which accuses the Governments of PP and PSOE do not have "the slightest dignity, neither ethics nor politic" continuing "with cynicism and irresponsibility without limits in its militaristic strategy to impose a missile defense shield and the alliance with the countries of NATO".

It also, criticizes that United States destines “a trillion dollars” to military expenditures to operate around the Persian Gulf and Middle East “to ensure the control of oil”, and understand that the three bases of Rota, Moron and Gibraltar only serve to external military interventions and “to give life to these sinister plans of domination and destruction by the NATO powers”.

Alongside Willy Meyer, at the head of the march were the general Secretary of the Communist Party of Andalusia, José Manuel Mariscal, and general coordinator of Izquierda Unida - Los Verdes in Andalusia, Antonio Maíllo.
