Letter of condolence from Pierre La urent , President of the EL

I've just been informed, to my total dismay, about the sudden death of Lothar Bisky. The death of my predecessor as President of the Party of the European Left (EL) is for me a source of great sadness and I can assure that the entire Party of the European Left, of which he was one of the main founders, is in mourning.

Today, an imposing figure of the European left disappears. Lothar Bisky was a respected Member of the European Parliament and had chaired the European United Left/ Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL). I want at this time to pay tribute to his courage, his sincerity and loyalty that have always marked his fights and engagements.

The ostracism of his person and his past have been the target aimed to discredit the voice of a left fighting against the forces of capital.

On behalf of the EL, I convey our most sincere and fraternal condolences to the family of Lothar Bisky, the co-chairs of Die Linke, Katja Kipping and Bernd Riexinger, and all its activists.
