A short time ago, President Obama reopened the old project to set a transatlantic free exchange zone between the European Union and the United States. On both sides of the ocean, they state that an agreement would be concluded in two years. The ambition, the voracity of the US financial capitalism seems to have no limits.
This project, negotiated in a total opacity and in contempt of democratic rules, with the total complicity of European authorities aims, noticeably, to continue the demolishing of the public sector, the social protections and to weaken employment and the surrounding rules. To speak clearly, the question is to submit all the conquests the European people have made during decades of struggle, to the mercantile targets of the United States and the Troïka (European Union, Central European Bank, IMF). That was demonstrated, on the American continent, by the setting of the North American Free Exchange Association Treaty which considers a country like Mexico, former corn great producer and origin of this cereal, has now to import this in a genetically modified version. In Europe, the example of Cyprus illustrates, dramatically the lack of humanity of bitter ultra-liberal solutions.

As if all this was not serious enough, different preliminary documents show that, more than organizing the largest free exchange market in the history of humanity, this market without borders has to be “secured”. We know what “securitization” means in the political US language. So, it is not surprising that President Obama, by another way awarded of the Peace Nobel prize, mentioned it as one of the great priorities of his mandate. Hilary Clinton, then Secretary of State, speaks about this project as a “Economic NATO”.

Like many trade-unions, political and associative movements, we say “no” to these imperialist ambitions.
