The European Left has always supported the will of the countries in Latin America and the Caribbean for an independent development.
We categorically insist on putting an end to the uncivilized more than half a century blockade against Cuba. The peaceful and beneficial relations need bridges, not illegal ideological and economic punishments against the will of Cuban society. We reject the so-called “common position of EU against Cuba”, which is deeply confrontational and inspired by USA imperialism.
The European Left is in favor of the immediate release of the 5 Cuban against terrorism- victims of the double standards of the American government and justice system. We urge Barack Obama to exercise his right to release the “five heroes from Cuba”. This will be an act of restored justice.
We follow the modernization of the Cuban economic model, facing the new provocative global perspectives as a necessity of alternatives against neoliberal domination. The potential of the Cuban society in the international economical field is really positive: This international role would at the same have a positive influence on the Cuban standards of living.
Cuba also plays an important role in developing ALBA, a new form of economic cooperation based on solidarity to the benefit of the people.
The European Left welcomes and greets the positive processes in Latin America, thanks to which for the first time in history 33 countries with 550 million citizens are united without the participation of USA and Canada. We are confident that Cuba in their role as a chairman of the temporary presidency of the CELAC ( Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) will activate the ambition of more countries for building the socialism of the 21 st century.
