This Wednesday, the 20th of March, the 10th anniversary of the war against Iraq, started by the United States of America, takes place. After ten years, it is known that information was manipulated, under the pretext of the existence of weapons of mass destruction which were never found, that the war produced tens of thousands of dead, destroyed the country, and left it in the hands of Al Qaeda. Assassinations of civilians, among them various journalists, and ten years of hunger and misery were the results of this war, like all the wars. The occupation of the United States carried on until December 2009, in a period where the tortures didn’t end.

The Party of the European Left denounces that this war was an act of deception and a brutal lack of respect for the human rights of a people. Iraq turned into one of the most violent and insecure countries of the world and is a daily scenery for religiously, regionally, ethnically and politically motivated attacks.

On this date where all around the world hundreds of members of organizations defending human rights condemn the acts of war and call for a damage restitution claim for all the victims and affected, the Party of the European Left joins this petition.
