Aller aux actualitésIsrael's attack on the peace flotilla carrying humanitarian aid for the people in Gaza is a criminal act against international law
The European Left demands that President Van Rompuy, High Representative Ashton and the Spanish presidency immediately call for an end to any violence against the peace flotilla, a judicial inquiry into the attack by an international commission and an immediate end to the Gaza Strip blockade. The EU must call for an extraordinary Security Council meeting, in order to examine this serious situation and to collectively decide upon the measures needed to ensure Israel respects the relevant UN resolutions.
The European Left expresses its condolences to and solidarity with the friends and families of the victims of this brutal attack, and the people of Gaza. The EL reiterates its full support for the actions of the peace movement and stresses the need to increase international support for the Palestinian people's cause and right to self determination.
We call on the Israeli peace movement and all democratic and political forces in Israel to resist the policy of ongoing siege against the civilian population in Gaza, and to intensify its struggle to find a political solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of two independent, political and economically sustainable states, based on international law and on the full implementation and respect for UN resolutions 338, 194, 242. Action is needed now!
