The Party of the European Left (EL) expresses to the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST – Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra) all its solidarity and support after the aggression committed against its Florestan Fernandes National School. The EL condemns the unjustified violence carried out in this attack in which firearms were used and some militants were arbitrarily detained.

This arbitrary intervention is worrying in a context marked by repression and a growing criminalization of social and popular movements that fight for the reestablishment of democracy in Brazil.

The persecution carried out by the government led by the authors of the coup against President Dilma Rousseff against leftist organizations and against personalities like Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is a clear sign of a return to authoritarianism and a regime of arbitrariness.
