The protesters received support from local citizens who do not wish their region to become a place for another American military installation in Europe. Polish Young Socialists (ELP member-observer), with their guests from Germany and the Czech Republic, were present at the protest. In their speeches Miloslav Ransdorf (GUE/NGL) and Andrzej Skiba (Young Socialists) expressed their indignation over the fact that Polish and Czech governments are ignoring the will of the majority of their citizens by allowing the radar and rocket bases to be located in their countries and that funds should go to education and fighting poverty, not to bombs and missiles.

Another speaker of fhe Young Socialists- Grzegorz Ilnicki said that it is high time that politicians start respecting the people and their beliefs. "No one asked us whether we we are in favor of bombing Yugoslavia, Afghanistan or Iraq. Because if they did so they would hear NO".

A conference held by Young Socialists in Gdańsk on Sunday, March 30 (main hall of Gdańsk University Library) brought together students, scientists and left-wing activists form Poland and Europe.
The panelist and other participants of the conference agreed that locating  U.S. military bases in Poland has nothing to do with securing safety and peace, but is rather another element of America's imperial policy and that it is the responsibility of the Polish and European Left to intensify the campaign against militarism in Europe.

Helmut Scholz (DIE LINKE.) stressed the necessity for closer cooperation between the anti-war movements in the countries where U.S. military bases are located and other European countries. Young Socialists Secretary Grzegorz Ilnicki stated that changing Polish foreign policy is one of the main tasks for the Polish Left.
This was supported by panelists from other socialist and green parties. The representatives of the University of Gdańsk stated that by accepting U.S. military base proposal the Polish government is making a mistake from both, the constitutional and geopolitical point of view.
