The last 9 and 10 july 2005, Esquerra Unida i Alternativa, EuiA, held the IVth National Assembly, the party highest medium, equivalent to a Congress party.

Nearly 700 delegates took part actively in it. Marga Ferre and Helmut Scholz, members of the Executive Board of the EL participated on the EuiA congress.

The slogan of the event was:

More national rights. More social rights. More EUiA

EUiA is an emergent strength in sustained growth, composed of several parties, organizations, people and left revolutionaries and transformers movements. It is present in the Catalonia and in the Spanish Parliament, as in many city halls. It joins as founder of PEE (European Left Party)

The congressional works carried out several debates, negotiated in the respectives Comittees: political proposal, public health, education, employment, Europe, housing, environment and statutes.

At the Assembly were present many parties delegations of Catalonia and Spain (specially on the part of IU) as international delegations and particularly the PEE.

The National Council of 150 members, resulting from the election, will count on 110 people of the Jordi Miralles list.

The new National Council gathered to choose new general coordinator. Jordi Miralles, the only candidate proposed, obtained the 74% of the votes and was choosed automatically.

Jordi Miralles, the new choosed coordinator, cloosed the Assembly. In his speech promised employment and integration, trainigs’s growth and a decalogue of the priorities that define and let’s be more specific the transformer struggles: the public services and the social rights, the peace and the solidaity, the development of the Catalan autonomy and left-wing government programme, the commitment for a new social and of the people (lower ordres) Europe.

It was an EUiA organization and consolidation success, that in few years had experienced a quantitative and qualitative growth unchallengeable.
