The EL clearly stands fo an non-military approach in the international relations, for disarmament and peace - worldwide. Therefor  we appreciate the efforts of both Left parties to re-organize the political frame and structures in the bilateral relationship and fields of cooperation of Greece and Turkey. We hope the efforts of ODP - open to any other democratic force in that country interested in good neighbourhood with Greece and other EU- Member countries, in deepening the democratization of the Turkish society and the Turkish state institutions in particular - will be supported by peace initiatives like this campaign.We are convinced that such activities and  initiatives of the Left  will help and support an athmosphere positively influencing Turkey's development as well as bringing the country nearer to a position for a possible membership  in the EU.Such approach can also give new and constructive influence and pressure on the restarted negotiations on this issue between Turkey and the EU.

Any step of promoting peace and friendship between both countries is welcomed by the European Left - which should give impact also on the establishment and deepring of constructive and friendly relatins to all other EU member countries. The overcoming of the centuries old logics of thinking  in military terms is without alternatives - if humanity and the European peoples will have a future. Iraq, Lebanon and the whole Middle east shows clearly - demilitarisation, disarmament  and political ways of developing the neighbourhood- relationship is so much needed - in particular in our time when militarism is growing globally.W
We call to all democratic forces in Turkey and Greece to support this proposed policy for another Europe of peace and democracy.
