On the Agenda were topics like the German and Portuguese EU Presidency, Preparations towards the 2nd EL Congress, current development in the Middle East, EL partici-pation and cooperation with other structures of Leftist organisations and structures on the alternative G8 Summit, Information about the results in the elections in Spain, France and Belgium, etc.
The first day discussions' were mainly focused on the results of the German EU-presidency and the mandate for the new IGC decided by Brussels June EU summit to work out a new "simplified" EU- treaty". The Executive board agreed to start an Information campaign on the "New EU-treaty" and to organize a meeting of the Council of Chairpersons of the EL around the informal EU summit in Lisbon October, 18-19. Another main issue was the Middle East. After a deep discussion and an exchange of view from all the parties concerning the recent Middle East development, the EL decided to set up a new ad-hoc working unit on Middle East to coordinate the work of the EL in this field in the future. The
EL welcomed the proposal of Jean-François Gau and Christine Mendelsohn to ask every party to send an open letter as drafted by Marie-George Buffet (PCF) to their heads of states and governments in the different countries.
A big part of the board meeting was reserved for the preparations of the 2nd EL Congress 23rd till 25th of November 2007 in Prague. All the responsible speakers from the different preparation units presented a summary of the work which has been done is the last months.
As they vote in the European Parliament concerning the Post directive was on the way the Executive board adopted a paper against the total liberalization of postal services .
