At the 10 of July the European Parliament will vote on the final and total liberalization of the post.
The example of those countries which already privatized the post shows us what that means: closing down of post offices, increase of prices of tariffs for ordinary citizens, wage dumping, cutting jobs, pressure of competition, loss of quality and inequalities in the postal services.
After ten member countries announced already their concerns in the council, the committee on traffic and tourism in the EP negotiated a double-faced compromise. It’s giving green light to the final liberalization of the post. And at the same time it offers an adjournment for those countries which are not ready for a complete opening of their markets until 2011 or even 2013. These preparations mean that the way to privatization is already paved by rationalization.
The Party of the European Left is asking every European citizen for resistance to this intention. The liberalization of the post means a further decisive step to dismantle the European social model.

More then 100.000 people from all over Europe have signed a petition against the total liberalisation of the post. At the beginning of June trade unionists from all European countries expressed their protest. One week ago we have seen a strike of 130.000 post employees against cuts in wages and the cutback of 40.000 jobs. Now it’s time to get active and to make pressure on the European deputies and governments.
The EL says NO to the divestiture of the post. We are saying YES to the access for everybody to modern means of communication. We are demanding an evaluation of all privatisations done so far and legal protection of all public services at the European level. The EL supports the efforts of the European deputies of the GUE/NGL group in the European Parliament and calls all the deputies of the EP to reject the Ferber Report on the liberalization of postal services on the 11th of July.

The EL shows its solidarity with the employees of the post and their trade unions and is ready to participate in all actions which are aiming to stop the furiousness intention to privatisation of the European Commission.
