The participation amounts to 150 people, mainly young, from 16 European countries. The presence of parties from the Eastern Europe is significant.
The opening of the University was made from Waltraud Fritz-Klackl, member of the EL Executive Board on behalf of the host party KPOE.  
After a short theoretical introduction, by Michael Brie, Georg Hamman member of the “Aaron Quartett” rounded up the evening with a musical intervention.
During the next days the comrades and activists of the European Left will discuss several topics: The Left concepts and ideas during the last 40 years, sustainability – water and the future of Labour.  Next to all seminars and plenary, each day will be accompanied by excursion to local places, like a meeting with representatives of water cooperatives, a visit to the Hallstatt older salt mines and more.
