“Building Alliances: For a Europe of Solidarity” is the motto of the 5thCongress of the Party of the European Left (EL) that starts this Friday, December 16th. 223 delegates are expected to gather in Berlin during the next three days, where over 100 international guests and speakers will also take part.

The Party of the European Left was created in May 2004, in Rome, and is currently composed of 32 members parties and observers from the alternative left in Europe. The EL is expected to grow after this Congress as 8 new parties are to see its accession ratified.

On Sunday about midday, when this 5th Congress will end, the EL will have a renewed direction and a reinforced structure to give a quicker political response to a Europe in which the changes hasten, and a roadmap that will mark the political focus for the next three years.

The EL Congress will address important issues such as the creation of a broad left-wing front to stand against fascism and the far-right, the fight against tax evasion and the rupture with the negotiations of TTIP, TISA and CETA. The EL stands for a Europe that allows people to take control over economic choices, advocates equal rights for all, dignified welcome and a policy to help migrants and refugees, a Europe that works for peace and not for war or fear.

The Congress will take place at the BCC – Berlin Congress Center, and will be broadcasted in streaming through the following link, starting this Friday at 4pm: https://www.die-linke.de/mediathek/livestream/
