The Italian left warms up its engines
for the general strike of December 12th
On November 29, two weeks before the general strike of December 12, L'Altra Europa con Tsipras held a revindicative event in Rome with the slogan "No to Renzi, no to the Troika, for the "just cause", meaning by "just cause" the defence of article 18 and the minimum income "for all".
Under relentless rain, more than 1,000 persons gathered in the Farnese square to listen to the participants in the event, for more than two hours, applauding the involvement of trade unionists, representatives of social forces, political organizations, elected representatives, journalists, intellectuals, feminists and young people. Maite Mola, Vice President of the Party of the European left (EL), featured along with European leaders and the deputy Alberto Garzón, one of the 25 speeches which heated and gave joy in this rainy day.
The Vice-president of the EL focused her speech on the need for unity and for the left. And these were precisely the words most heard and applauded with great force by all those present, those who carried flags of different signs and those who carried the flag with sickle and hammer of the Communist Refoundation Party. People who come from different regions of Italy, showed great confidence and hope for the future of the Italian left from which the militants of the left in Europe have learnt so much.
On 12 December, the Italians are invited to participate in a general strike against the labour reform proposed by the Government, which is in an approval process and with the general budget for 2015.
With this day of strike, convened by the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) and the Italian Union of Labour (UIL), two months of mobilizations against the Government of Matteo Renzi culminate.
