The Party of the European Left (EL), committed to the campaign against the TTIP and CETA, welcomes the achievement of 2.750.000 signatures collected by the European Citizen Initiative against these free trade agreements.

This massive rejection of a treaty made in absolute opacity between transnational lobbyists, the European Commission and the United States, represents the citizen response against the ratification of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with Canada.

These agreements will damage not only the labour and social rights, but also the standards of food safety and environmental, the deregulation of the public services and the cultural goods, and the proper democracy and constitutional state.

The Party of the European Left calls on the European institutions to listen and respect the voice of the people and reminds them that their responsibility is to represent the rights of the citizens and not the interest of the large corporations.

The EL, and its 27 member parties, continues spreading the message against this devastating treaty made at the dictation of the large transnational companies. In fact, 90% of the meetings organized by the European Commission to prepare these negotiations were made with lobbies business.

The deadline for collecting signatures concludes next October 6. The EL encourages citizens who have not signed yet, to join this European Citizen Initiative to achieve the 3 million goal.
