The Party of the European Left (EL), participating in the World Social Forum which is taking place in Tunisia from 24 to 28 March, this afternoon took part in the demonstration of resistance and solidarity with the Tunisian people after the terrorist attack that killed 21 people, mostly tourists, last Wednesday.

The demonstration opening the World Social Forum 2015 had as motto "Peoples of the world against terrorism" and it has been held along the capital’s streets, under heavy rain, ending near the gates of the museum.

During the rally, Christine Mendelshon, the French comrade from PCF, explained that today the EL is holding in the demonstration because we want to show our solidarity with the Tunisian people that is seeking the democratic path. "The attack not only has failed to frighten us, but it has increased resistance to say that we do not have to feel fear, that they have not won and that we are many more. Although they have killed tourists we will never fall into the false argument of the clash of civilizations".

Mendelshon concluded: "the alter-globalists return today to show solidarity as they did on February 15, 2003, when they organized all over the world to claim peace and democracy in a joint shout against the Iraqi war".

Claudia Haydt, from Die Linke and member of the EL-Executive Board, reiterated that Party of the European Left participates in this march in solidarity with the victims of terror, showing that terrorism does not frighten us as well: "our answer is solidarity and peace, not the reinforcement of police and military security policies".

The 2015 World Social Forum was inaugurated this morning with two assemblies: one of young people, the other of women from all over the world. During the next four days 5.000 organization from 170 countries will meet at the campus University of Tunis discussing about globalization, capitalism and violation of rights but above all they will be working on the construction of joint economics and social alternatives.
