The Party of the European Left (EL) strongly condemns the ambush on participants during the celebrations to mark the 35th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution. The attacks killed five people and left about 30 wounded.

These criminal acts show the true face of the most extremist Nicaraguan right that has opted for violence after its failure in the last election that confirmed the massive support that the Nicaraguan people gives the government of the Sandinista National Liberation Front.

The Party of the European Left expresses its solidarity with the people of Nicaragua and the FSLN and its militants, who reject all forms of violence that could lead the country back to a time when the most reactionary sectors tried to prevent any progressive change. The EL reaffirms its support to the changes being implemented by the FSLN and its government.
