One million and nine hundred thousand Europeans have supported the European Citizens' Initiative which claims the "implementation of the human right to water and sanitation in the European legislation". This great citizen mobilization that must lead to action !

The right to water and sanitation is a fundamental human right, vital, which should be guaranteed to everyone within public services and not subject to market rules in Europe and around the world. This is not a commercial product but a public good of humanity.

The European Commission has published a response which recognizes the relevance and legitimacy of this demand but offers no legislation. But this is what should lead an ICE that has been so popular!

The Party of the European Left reaffirms its full support for the Citizens' Initiative “Right2Water”. We will shoulder this demand in the European election campaign, in social movements and institutions until this right becomes effective in our countries and at European level.
