Social and political collectives have called in Spain the “March of the Dignity” that will come together in Madrid on the 22nd March after walking thousands of kilometers throughout Spain.
Eight columns of workers, unemployed, precarious workers, homeless, young people, students are walking towards Madrid. The march is convened against unemployment, precariousness, cuts and repression.
The Party of the European Left (EL) supports the March of the Dignity and will participate with its Secretariat in the demonstration in Madrid on Saturday 22nd of March. The EL supports the demands raised by the organizers, most of them matching the EL’s proposals for Europe: the rejection to the social cuts, the sanctions of the governments which carry out the policies of the Troika; the demand for bread, work and social minima for all.
The EL is in solidarity with the Spanish society that suffers from the effects of the crisis and facing a difficult situation as in the rest of Europe. Today the social majority of workers lives without employment, without homes, without basic resources for survival, while in the meantime the employers and the governments implement new austerity measures that impoverish and increase the precariousness – if possible! – the already difficult living condition of the population.
The EL considers that the fact that governments take advantage of the crisis to implement austerity policies is an attack against human rights, and that the repercussions of these policies cause suffering, poverty, hunger and even death. And all this while banking and economic powers continue to have big profits at the expense of the citizens’ lives!
As claimed by the March for Dignity, we as the EL say no to a patriarchal system, which only drags us back into times of the past, the right of women decide regarding their own bodies and provokes their return to their homes in order to dedicate themselves solely to the upbringing of children.
Finally, the EL considers the March of the Dignity as a very important unitary, massive and strong mobilization against the policies that violate human rights and social justice.
On March 22nd the most basic human rights will be defended: food, employment, social minima, housing, health, education, citizenship.
