The Party of the European Left (EL) strongly denounces the Turkish police attack to the Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) and Turkish Communist Party’s (TKP) offices in Edirne (Turkey) with the detention of 14 ÖDP members and 3 TKP members. First, police threw gas bombs, broke glasses and then entered the offices destroying doors and beating our comrades.

The EL shows all solidarity with the comrades of the Freedom and Socialist Party’s (ÖDP), one of our 26 member parties of the Party of the European Left, as well as the comrades of Turkish Communist Party and demands for their immediate release.

Erdogan's election trips are carried out while declaring a state of emergency. The EL accuses Erdogan's Government of preparing a dangerous provocation that would throw the country into chaos in order to ensure the continuation of his authoritarian regime in the election will take place in few days.

Europe cannot consent under any circumstance that any European government attacks political parties that exercise a democratic opposition.
