The European Left expresses its support to the Venezuelan people for its mass participation in the presidential elections that took place on the 14 ^th of April, which ratifies its democratic will.

The EL sends its greeting to the President Nicolá s Maduro for the vote, which resulted in his election as the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

In particular, the EL stresses the transparency and clarity of the vote, certified once again by the CNE (National Electoral Council), the competent authority according to Venezuelan Constitution.

It calls to all sectors to respect the official electoral results given by CNE and, in case of controversy, to use the institutional paths to present any possible demand or extraordinary proceedings.

The EL supports CNE's independent decision to implement a methodology to widen the auditing of the electoral polls.

We categorically insist on putting an end to the violence provoked by the opposition which had the dramatic result of 8 persons killed and more than 60 injured. EL expresses its solidarity with the wounded citizens and the families of the victims of the 15th of April 2013.

We call for dialogue and peaceful relations to contribute to tolerance to benefit all Venezuelan people.

We urge the EU to take a position with no conditions, to respect the sovereignty of Venezuelan people and to implement cooperation with the new elected authorities.
