The Party of the European Left (EL), in cooperation with the Sao Paulo Forum, carried out a series of initiatives and debates in the framework of the People’s Summit that took place in Santiago de Chile on the 25th – 26th and the 27th of January 2013.
This presence shows the continuity of the EL’s active participation of the convergence of social movements, trade unions and political forces who propose a new relation between the peoples of Latin America based on solidarity, the cooperation and the complementarities, all forces fighting against the neo-liberal hegemony.
We reject the European Union's projects for Latin America which intend to consolidate neo-colonialism, the privileges of the multinational corporations and to perpetuate the pillage of the natural resources of this region.
The EL endorses the People’s Summit's prposals in favour of a new model of development which allows the conquer of new rights for the workers as well as new economic, social environmental and cultural rights.
The EL expresses all its solidarity with the Mapuche people and their demands to respect their rights as well as with the fights of the Chilean people, of its youth to make another Chile possible.
