This meeting was to seek converging thoughts and actions to be taken across Europe on the local, regional, national and European level. Fourteen countries were represented, one hundred elected officials present.

Three main themes were discussed:

1-strategies of resistance and alternative to the austerity plans at national and European level.

2-How to protect employments and workers' rights?

3-How to regain power over fiscal and economic choice

- In addition to the findings on the severity of the crisis for the peoples of Europe and especially in Greece, Portugal and Spain, the discussion focused on alternatives to build together the practical organization of the setting convergence using all levels of institutional powers in which we operate.

Concrete examples of possible coordination and convergence were exposed particularly between French and German MEPs who submitted joint statements in their respective parliament against austerity Topics possible common: the minimum wage, a minimum allocation of solidarity for the unemployed , contribution of the surplus’ countries ...

The victorious action in many countries of the European Union to defend the right to strike against a directive which would be voted on in Europe is another success, it proves the need for quick information at different levels of institutional powers.

-On the issue of convergence and alternatives that are defined the left four themes that emerged :

1-Reconquest of democratic rights

2-Focus on social development and ecological transition, do the opposite of austerity

3-funding of social and ecological development is the opposite of the current competitiveness implies the lowest bidder social. It must be funded by means outside markets

4-The question of peace for the whole of Europe

These 3 or 4 axes converging can be declined such as changing the ECB's tasks in creating a European public bank for development and ecology, fighting against tax havens, offering a taxation of large fortunes.

And then how do we give to see these common landmarks, in what form?

The need to create a network of solidarity between countries is a concept that has come very powerfully, it is important to think about and develop solidarity not only to deal with dramatic situations but also in terms of political solidarity.

The example of 14 November that welcomes the whole assembly is very convincing in this respect: three of the countries most affected by austerity plans call for a general strike: Greece, Portugal, Italy, follows a call ETUC day of action against austerity plans which may take various forms throughout Europe.

The Altersummit to be held in June in Greece is another process involving trade unions, social movements, but also the European Left in dialogue with social forces. This process can help to create a convergence between the peoples of Europe and gives to see the forces in capacity to bring an alternative in Europe.

It is emphasized in the conclusions was the importance of having capacity to meet today, the day of strike action on 14 November, the process of altersummit, these three elements show a possibility gathering stronger than before in Europe.

To continue this work, to exchange experiences and alternative proposals it is proposed to create a European working group can permanently boost the work begins today.
