Hundreds of thousands of workers, of citizens have pounded the pavement in European cities, yesterday, against austerity. The lifebloods of European societies have been coordinated to defend work and life against the interests of banks and markets.

In the countries of southern Europe, strikes and demonstrations widespread showed the level of rejection of austerity and demands of democracy of peoples facing the barbarism of the Troika and the selling-out of their governments. In these countries in severe economic recession, going through a humanitarian crisis, the junction between the workers, the unemployed and precarious, between unions and social movements is on the right track.

Social and political responses are still unequal between the different countries of the EU; this is a long journey. But a step forward was taken for the union of European peoples. Of this excitement comes a hope for the future of Europe.

The Party of the European Left congratulates workers who went on strike for the rights of everyone, and all mobilizations and solidarity actions that took place throughout Europe.
