The European Left party welcomes the victory obtained by  Hugo Chavez last Sunday in October the 7th in the presidential elections. This is a historical victory, both for the results obtained, close to the 8 million votes, and also for its meaning because Venezuelan people have massively declared in favor of the continuation of deep and democratic transformation projects of the society.

We also want to greet Venezuelan citizens, 80% of the population voted while in Europe it is a triumph to have 50% of the population voting in any kind of elections.

This victory is the strengthening of the processes carried out, such as the construction of an effective and democratic popular participation in the decision-making, remarkable results in the fight against the poverty and against marginalization, the access of the majority to the right to health and the right to education, credit policies in favour of production, the agrarian reform and food sovereignty.

The EL reaffirms all its solidarity with Venezuelan people and with left parties which put together the Great Patriotic Pole, both creators of this popular triumph.
