The recent developments in the Turkish Syrian border region which resulted from attacks on turkish territory under unclear and dubious circumstances, that lead to the death of 5 civilians, and the inmediate Turkish military response, created an extremely dangerous escalation of violence.

We are concerned about the decision of the Turkish Parliament to ask for NATO support for Turkish military operations. This can not be accepted by the International Community because it will further destabilise the whole region and could be the start for an international war against Syria.

The EL (European Left) calls for an immediate cease fire and a thorough international investigation of the attack wich resulted in the death of the 5 civilans. Any support of NATO members for military operations would indicate that war on Syria was the imminent strategy of the euroatlantic powers.

The EL calls for a peacefull political solution of the Siryan civil war and rejects any military interventions in Syria and any other nations in the region. The European Union can not and should not be an acomplice to this criminal escalation.
