Yesterday, a demonstration against the presentation of a fascist theatrical play has been organised in Budapest. The watchword of this action has been: "Don’t buy a ticket for hate!"
Because of their participation in that pacifist mobilization, the president of the two anti-fascist resistant associations – the FIR and the MEASZ – was violently attacked by a group of some twenty fascists, all dressed in black.
Vilmos Hanti, the President of the FIR and MEASZ had to be hospitalized.
The climate of tension and hate which spans throughout Hungary today is very worrying. The democrats and the workers movement are regularly the target of these ultraviolent groups.
The Orban government does nothing against it; on the contrary, it supports these behaviours through stigmatising and prohibiting the symbols of the workers movement, as it is also the case with the red star. It prefers to stand in opposition to democracy, rather than answering to the social needs of Hungarians whose living and working conditions worsen day by day.
A direction is taking shape: It is the first time that responsibles from associations and politics, figures of the foreground of the resistances are being targeted through calls for lynching and where their physical integrity is affected.
The Party of the European Left affirms once again its solidarity with all the defenders of the democracy in Hungary.
The EL demands that measures are taken in order that these acts will not be left unpunished.
