Go to newsResolution of support of EL to the democratic progressive and left wing process in Latin America and the Caribbean both within the antineoliberal and anticapitalist social movements as well as the progressive governments in the region
1. The participation of the EL, its respective members in the last Forum of Sao Paolo celebrated in Caracas, Venezuela enhances once more the tradition of collaboration, common action and solidarity of the European Left and the Latin American Left.
2. The European Left denounces the “21 st century institutional coup d'etats” that have taken place in Honduras and Paraguay more recently. The serious unsuccessful anti-democratic attempts to overthrow the legally elected Presidents Rafael Correa in Ecuador and Evo Morales more recently brings to our attention that oligarchies in many Latin American countries and imperialist forces will continue to try to preserve their interests at any costs.
3. The EL believes that the continuation of the “Bolivarian revolution” with a democratic and a socialist perspective, on the upcoming presidential elections in Venezuela on the 7 th of October are of the utmost and strategic importance for the Left wing and progressive ongoing processes in Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Cuba among other nations and peoples.
4. UNA-SUR, CELAC, MERCOSUR, ALBA, BANCOSUR are extremely important institutional and political tools for Latin American and Caribbean antineoliberal integration process, and demonstrate in a vivid and practical way that the tactical and strategic victories against neoliberalism and capitalism need a global vision of the Left not only in Latin America, also in Europe and the rest of the world, underlying the importance of regional integration, and not national isolation, for consolidating a left social project and defend democracy and people's sovereignty.
