Go to newsBlockupy Frankfurt: Against the Austerity Regime! For International solidarity
The European Left supports the initiative “Blockupy Frankfurt!” which calls for days of action from 16 - 19 May in Frankfurt am Main, Germany and especially encourages its activists to take part in the international demonstration on Saturday 19 th May.
It is necessary to actively oppose the crisis regime and it has an important symbolic value to show this in the midst of the financial district of Frankfurt, the headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB) and many powerful German banks and corporations. We oppose the practise to use nationalistic slogans to stir up the workers, the unemployed, the precariously in Germany and Greece, Italy and France and other countries against each other. We rely on the other hand on solidarity with all people and movements who fight all over Europe against the attacks on their livelyhood and their future.
This response to the crisis is dominated by the dictates of the governments of Germany and France as well as the troika of EU Commission, European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) that effectively undermine democratic processes.
BLOCKUPY FRANKFURT consists of groups and activists from the Occupy movement, initiatives of unemployed people, trade unionists, activists from the environmental, the peace and the attac movement, anti-racists, migrants' and anti-fascist initiatives, youth and students' organisations, groups and organizations of the radical left and parties of the political left.
The Frankfurt days of protest connected directly to the Global Day of Action on 12th May, and the anniversary of the first Asamblea of Madrid. At the same time there will be protests in the U.S. against the G8 summit, which was shifted out of fear of protests from Chicago to Camp David.
The European Left Party calls for a wide support of “Blockupy Frankfurt” and encourages people from different countries and regions to come to Frankfurt and take part in the days of protest.
