Once again, the tribute to Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht in the Cemetery of Socialist in Berlin continued in the afternoon with a political-cultural event organized by the Party of the European Left (EL) and Die Linke at Kosmos in Berlin. This year, the event, which is presented yet again by Diether Dehm and Judith Benda, led by title "Unionism strengths humanity (anti-communism destroys it)", and it was attended by members of the leadership of Die Linke, such as Katja Kipping, Dietmar Bartsch, Christoph Butterwegge (Candidate of Die Linke for presidential elections), Oskar Lafontaine and Sahra Wagenknecht, among others.

Maite Mola represented the Party of the European Left and did so with an analysis that began with the description of a difficult situation characterized by "a significant increase of the worldwide destabilization (…) wars, terrorism, the involution of democracy on a global scale and the rise of the extreme right" and concluded with the optimism regarding an advance of the left and a wider willingness to join forces in the struggle against capitalism and imperialism.

The Vice-President of the EL began her speech by recalling the Centenary of the Soviet Revolution, quoting Lenin and vindicating the contributions of communism to the history of humanity.

She made a balance of 2016 remembering the impeachment of the Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff, the attacks against Venezuela and the victory of Trump, which served to explain the imperialist offensive. She also argued that the struggle against capitalism and imperialism is global and comprehensive.  Maite Mola accused the EU and NATO to be instruments of this imperialism, so that, "we have to be much more active in the confrontation with NATO and the EU as imperialist instruments", she said.

The Vice-President of the EL criticized the policy of the EU on the issue of refugees and accused it of putting commercial interests with Israel and Morocco on top of the rights of the Saharawi and Palestinian people. She denounced, explicitly, the relations with "the dictator Erdogan" who violates human rights and massacred the Kurdish people as well as the Turkish.

In Europe Maite Mola focused the attention on the danger of the advance of the far right, the "shameful" referendum in Hungary against the immigration and the rise of nationalism among workers as a defense of the jobs, as it was seen with the Brexit.

At this point she asked for a self-criticism of the left to analyze “why the workers, young people and women do not vote for us”. But she also stressed the importance of struggles in Europe, among them the French against the labor law, the Belgian for labor rights, the German for peace and against the far right and the mobilization in the whole of Europe against the TTIP and CETA.

Maite Mola spoke in the German auditorium of the advance of the left in Portugal, Ireland and Spain, despite the fact that in the latter country the Socialist Party has allowed, with its abstention, that the Popular Party continues in Government, "which is the party more neo-liberal, ultraconservative and most corrupt of Europe".

She also appealed for the need to set off the conflict, to go out into the street to "demand a dignified life" and "to prevent the majority to become resigned to the loss their rights" underlining the role that the unions of class must play.

One of the most positive aspects to this year, she emphasized, is the decision of the EL to create a European forum of the left that is "an instrument to win allies in order to generate a process of European horizontal, feminist, and solidary integration with those who want to build a new multipolar international order that ends up with any type of imperialism".
