The announced stop of the US missile defence system in Eastern Europe is a step in the right direction. The Bush-era plans never served as a so called protection of international terrorism or as defence of - non existent – Iranian nuclear missiles.
The recent decision of president Obama proves that fact. The true nature of the missile defence system was to military encircle Russia and to apply political pressure.
The plans to stop the missile defence systems opens up a space for negotiations with Russia and an integration of other countries. This opportunity must be seized quickly.
These talks demand of a all the parties a constructive approach which has to result not only in a renouncement of military systems and actions but also in broad and verifiable measures of disarmament.
It’s a first step in the right direction of the US president but others like it must follow.
