Present at the meeting were EL President Lothar Bisky, Chairman of the Communist Part of Bohemia and Moravia Filip Vojtech, Josef Hrdlicka, chairman of the Communist Party of Slovakia, Christine Mendelsohn from the French Communist Party, and Raul Arisa from the Communist Party of Spain.
Many people on the streets took the chance to enter into direct discussion with the speakers and to point out their opinions and expectations about the European Union. The debate was followed by personal talks with the representatives until the late afternoon.
The main proposals from the EL Electoral platform, drafted in consensus with all the 30 member and observer parties were in the centre of the debate, especially the need of public control over the European Central bank, to stop the privatisation of public services and the need to give social issues more importance in view of economical matters.
Filip Vojtech accused the attempt in Czech Republic to polarise the political themes and welcomed the open debates about the proposals of the EL Platform.
Lothar Bisky stressed the importance of the unity of the Left in Europe and welcomed the active engagement in the electoral campaign of the 400,000 EL members united by one common electoral platform with the central demand: "Let’s fight together for a change in Europe!"
