The European Left joins today's European Action Day, which has been promoted by the European employees of Opel/Vauxhall and Saab. We support their protest, activities and the forthcoming demonstration against the closure of production sites and job losses.
We call for EU loan guarantees and stakes. The workers must not pay for the crisis of the car-manufacturers: opportunities for them to participate in management decisions and develop a new corporate organisation are important steps that the governments of the European countries must take. Urgently needed is a European strategy for social and ecological reorganisation.
Lothar Bisky, President of the European Left
