Regarding the world social forum that is taking place this week in Montreal, Canada, the vice-president of the Party of the European Left (EL) Maite Mola states:
"Another world is necessary: in the current political situation meetings between progressive political forces, trade unions and social movements with people from all over the world is more important than ever.
We need to find left alternatives to the diverse challenges of today's time, like worldwide hunger, increasingly social injustice, wars and advancing militarization as well as the strengthening of the reactionary forces in many countries. The WSF is an important platform for international exchange of experience and for the development of programmatic points and common actions."
The EL criticizes heavily the denial of entry by the Canadian government for many activists, especially from Africa and Asia.
"It is unacceptable that the restrictive entry policies make the participation of many activists impossible. The WSF needs especially the voice of the global south."
The Party of the European Left is in Montreal with a small delegation, consisting of Josef Baum (KPÖ, EL), Judith Benda (DIE LINKE, EL), Maite Mola (PCE, EL), Natasa Theodorakopolou (SYRIZA, EL) and EL staff Piera Muccigrosso and Daniel Sheffer.
The EL participates in five seminars, is present in the campus with the stand with a lot of documentation on the several activities of the last months, and it has on the agenda also a meeting with the political party " Quebec solidaire ". Not to forget the complete commitment and presence in many anti-TTIP and anti-CETA activities.
