Please receive on behalf of the Party of the European Left our warmest congratulations on your jubilee. Wholeheartedly we wish you a strong health, a lot of power for your ongoing work for your people and happiness in your personal life.
You dedicated your life to the liberation of the South African people. We deeply admire the courage and the steadfastness that you showed on this way. After decades of having been imprisoned, of political struggle against the inhuman apartheid regime in your home country, you have played a role as the first black president of South Africa enabling the transition from apartheid to the new South Africa as a democratic and peaceful process and opening all people of your country a perspective to strive together for a life in dignity, peace and social justice.
European leftists were always on the side of the South African people. Since the creation of the Party of the European Left in 2004 the militants and sympathizers of our today 30 member and observer parties are following with great sympathy and enthusiasm, with interest and close passion, with solidarity and carefully the developments in your country. We hope and wish you today that on the basis of your work and on the basis of the joint efforts of the South African people your home turns into a prosperous, social just, democratic, stabile and multi-cultural society. That South Africa - with these experiences of liberation and construction years – will play an important role in developing peace, social justice and democracy and in maintaining the environment on the African continent.
