The success of Dimitris Christofias is a hope for the working people in Cyprus and an important step towards a peaceful solution of the Cyprus problem. And it is also a great encouragement for the left in Europe.

This clear recognition of his person and through him of the consequent policy of AKEL for the problems of the Cyprus people was a great news in Berlin, Brussels, Paris and Praha. The EL wishes Dimitris Christofias power and fortune for his new responsibility and will fully support the attainment of his political goals in particular in all steps towards a solution of the Cyprus problems.
