In the name of DIE LINKE and the European Left, Lothar Bisky took the opportunity to express his solidarity with the comrades of AKEL, which always declared themselves against the occupation of the North of Cyprus that occurs in breach of international law. “We see it as our duty to do our utmost in support of the Cypriotes which stand up for a peaceful solution of the conflict in the country”, he said.

Observing that the referendum in Cyprus on the Annan plan failed in a democratic decision, he emphasized the efforts of AKEL last summer, and gave support to the Decision of the Extraordinary Pancyprian Conference of Akel at the 8th of July in the last year (2007).

“It is my conviction and my experience that AKEL does not stand alone with its proposals. It has a lot of European support.” He added: “A vote for AKEL in Cyprus is a vote for a peaceful solution of the Cyprus problem, a vote for a peaceful Europe!”
