The Party of the European Left supports the reactivation of the “Platform Trial to Aznar" after the appearance of new evidence related to the Iraq war, at the same time we propose to give an international dimension to that platform due to the huge consequences produced by the war, not only in Iraq but in the whole region, the impact in the displacement of thousands of people and the justification of the emergence of terrorism from the self-proclaimed Islamic State or Daesh.

Since the dismissal of the complaint submitted to the Supreme Court of Spain, and respective rejection, new details of the so-called "Chilcot report" have come to light, providing new evidence to bring to court the persons responsible for the invasion of Iraq, namely George Bush, Tony Blair and José Maria Aznar, who were in the so called Azores Summit, where the political preparation of the invasion began.

As the report points out, the former President of the Government of Spain, José María Aznar, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, met on 15 and 16 of March 2003 to discuss the invasion of Iraq. In that meeting both agreed on a strategy of communication to give the impression that they were doing everything possible to avoid war.

This is why we support the PCE in its call to political and social organizations, as well as the whole civil society of the Spanish State, to reactivate the necessary legal actions so as those responsible for the war in Iraq could go on trial for their crimes. That would require an international mobilization that rallies around that cause.

The serious action from the Azores group makes them responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and the destruction of a country, while being aware they were violating the United Nations decision, on the basis of lies and manipulations. And for this, even submit the case to the International Court of Justice in The Hague if necessary.
