São Paulo's Forum was constituted in 1990 when the Party of the Workers (PT-Brazil) called for other parties of Latin America and the Caribbean with the aim to debate the new international situation after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the consequences of the introduction of neoliberal policies from the majority of the governments of the region. In this sense, the principal proposal was to discuss a popular and democratic alternative to neoliberalism, -which was entering the phase of world-wide implementation-, with the approach to find a new frame and political tool to coordinate the development of the Latin American Left .

Untill now, the path of São Paulo's Forum showed that it is possible to construct new internationalist ways. The principal aim - the search of an alternative model of development with social justice - continues as center of the meetings. The efforts in this direction already generated a plot of relations where the exchange between among persons and ideas proves to be increasingly rich and profitable.

São Paulo's  supports respectful relations with other initiatives that agglutinate Latin-American and Caribbean political parties like the Permanent Conference of Political parties of Latin America (COPPPAL), the Latin American Socialist Coordination  /span> (CSL) and the Committee of the International Socialist one for Latin America and the Caribbean (SICLAC).}/span>
