The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted Tuesday, with a crushing majority (184 votes against 4), a resolution requesting the lifting of the economic embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba.
It is the 16th time since 1992 that a resolution with this clear demands is adopted, the two last times were in 2002 and 2004. Unfortunately, The United States never followed this convincing and sharp will of the majority of mankind.
The special rapporteur of UN for the right to the food, Jean Ziegler, condemned in Havana the US embargo, describing it of "unilateral arrogance" and "attack" against the international law, according to the Cuban press.
This embargo, dating from the February 7, 1962, is longest of the modern history.
We stress once more our solidarity with the Cuban people and share the orientation of the resolution of the United Nations. It is the right of the Cuban People to build their country and to decide their social system and the direction of future social development due to their own will and democratic decisions.
We reject the attempts of the Bush-government to make once again the anti-Cuban strategy of its economic and political blockade an instrument of its foreign policy and a tool of blackmailing other people.
We demand from the European Council and the EU-Commission to break with the blind following of the US blockade policy.
