The European Left sees itself in the tradition of anti-fascism. Therefore we feel obliged to fight the roots of fascism. "We must not ignore the lessons of history. Let us take this seriously... We are expected to counter the social demagogy of the Right with an active fight for social rights. We do not permit any rewriting of history or closing the files", declared Kurt Goldstein, defender of the Spanish Republic, Jew, communist and Honorary President of the International Auschwitz Committee, in October, 2004.
In the face of the Holocaust, of the liquidation of human lives as an industrial process, the Oath of Buchenwald: "Never again fascism! Never again war!" is today more relevant than ever. The Party of the European Left is deeply convinced: commemoration means learning internationalism, means an intense political fight against right-wing extremism, anti-Semitism and neo-fascism.
Commemoration is a chance and a pledge for a future society in peace and democracy.
